Morland UK celebrates award success after achieving strong business growth

A Welshpool company, which manufactures timber-based fit out products used in industries across the UK and Europe, celebrated success at the Powys Business Awards.

Morland UK, which is on course to increase turnover by almost £10 million in three years thanks to a successful business strategy, won The Growth Award, sponsored by The County Times.

Showcasing the diverse range of successful enterprises in the county, Powys Business Awards are organised by Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG) with support from sponsors.

Morland UK, which has 125 employees on Buttington Cross Enterprise Park, has sustainably grown sales and profitability by developing key markets and is on track for £31 million turnover this year.

The company has focused on building its manufacturing capacity and knowledge, developing its workforce and process and sourcing sustainable products and materials.

The company has developed into the UK construction and modular building sector by expanding its products portfolio and collaborating with an existing customer to identify opportunities.

Morland UK is currently working on several major Government construction contracts and continues to support this sector with its fire-rated doors and door sets.

The company has also developed a pioneering e-commerce platform for consumers and existing customers. The live online shop is used to sell a small selection of leisure based products for the DIY and van converter markets.

Traditional customers will be able to use the platform to order, complete returns and check account status and development, improving both the customer experience and efficiency within the company.

New territories in existing markets are being developed through exports to Europe, where key customers have been identified. Further export growth is forecast in the next five years in Europe where Morland UK has appointed a warehouse partner in Belgium.

After receiving the award, Morland UK’s managing director James Morris said: “I am delighted to have everyone in the company recognised with this award. Having won the award for growth, we will do our best to build on this success by continuing to invest in our people, equipment and products.

“We haven’t participated in many awards like this, so to have entered this year and won is very special.”

Powys Business Awards judges praised Morland UK for its investment in a highly automated production facility and the development and upskilling of employees to operate the successful ecommerce platform.

“Both turnover and profit have increased as a result of the company’s successful commercial strategy,” they said. “Their leisure markets and door lines will give good growth over the coming years.”
